Qatar is an important country with unique influence in the Middle East Gulf region and an important node of the Belt and Road Economic Belt. The exchanges and cooperation between China and Qatar have become increasingly close. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1988, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly. Especially in recent years, the two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges, in-depth practical cooperation in various fields and sound communication and coordination in international and regional affairs.

In November 2014,The Emir of Qatar Tamim visited China and hold talks with President of the people's Republic of China Xi Jinping. The two heads of state jointly announced the establishment of the "China Qatar Strategic Partnership". Qatar joined the AIIB in the same year and actively participated in the construction of the the Belt and Road.

In July 2018, the two countries officially signed an agreement on visa exemption, bringing the practical cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

In 2020, cooperation between China and Qatar rose against the trend and achieved remarkable results. China became Qatar's largest trading partner.

Lusail Landmark Stadium, the home stadium of the 2022 World Cup contracted by CRCC

On October 19, 2022, giant pandas "Sihai" and "Jingjing" from China officially arrived in Qatar by special plane, and successfully settled in the 120,000 square meter super luxury giant panda hall built by the Qatari government with huge investment, which is the first international cooperation project of giant pandas in the Middle East.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is just around the corner, with 32 teams from six continents playing in 12 stadiums in seven cities across Qatar, culminating in the landmark Stadium of Lusail, which will present a total of 64 spectacular football matches for fans around the world.

In order to celebrate the two giant pandas living in Qatar and actively welcoming the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Sichuan Xinyue Art Museum created a series of oil paintings with the core of "Sihai and Jingjing" living in Qatar, celebrating the World Cup together", featuring the close interaction between the animals represented by the corresponding countries of 32 World Cup teams from six continents and the World Cup. The paintings incorporate the freehand techniques of Chinese painting in the creation and show the enthusiasm of the arena with oil on canvas. Through cultural and artistic exchanges, we will deepen the friendship between China and Qatar, promote the comprehensive development of bilateral relations, and cheer for athletes on the field.
